Tardebigge Reservoir was constructed in 1827. Traditionally to get to the reservoir most people would have travelled via the canal. Today the closest road is Grimley Lane which takes you to a gated private parking area next to the canal which is for members only. Parking is tight due to the canal lock so consideration for your fellow members is required when parking your vehicle.
Taking your fishing tackle to your swim will require either a carp barrow and a good pair of walking boots OR a life jacket and an oar. Yes you can actually cut across the lake in your boat but we ask all members to follow the safety rules. Anybody spotted not wearing a life jacket will get a life time ban. You will be required to intially cross the canal either by crossing the lock gate or using the bridge. Please take care if you cross the lock gate, we have had members slip and fall into the canal. We would recommend using the actual bridge!
The grass bank of the dam wall is 10ft high. This means that if you have any mobility issues, you will struggle. You have the option of fishing along the grass bank or you can go round the lake to the far side.
The far side swims are very popular as they are far away from anybody, so if you are after solitude then this is the area for you. The quickest way to get to the far bank is via the boats but if you fancy a walk then you can follow the top of the dam wall round to the right. There is an access point via the public right of way gate, on to the nearby field. Don't forget to look behind you because you will see panoramic views of the Worcestershire countryside. Please follow the public right of way path up to our very own padlocked gate, at this point the access is for members only. Please do not give the access code to any visitors or guests. It is worth noting here that the field does get muddy during Winter and the Tardebigge mud is notoriously sticky due to the clay content, hence why they used to make bricks out of it just a few miles further up the canal so be advised to wear suitable footwear. If you fancy a walk down the canal at sometime you can still see the remains of the kilns.
Is the effort worth it? Absolutely! No it is not a quick accessible venue but this means it has remained unspoilt and is a true gem. If you are after a PROPER carping experience where the effort equals the rewards then Tardebigge Anglers is the syndicate for you.
